Athletic Participation - HS:
The Athletic Department at Gavit HS would like to encourage your son or daughter to participate in our athletic programs. At this time, many of our fall sports teams are already forming. Please contact your coach at Gavit to join any team. During the fall, we offer volleyball and cross country. Boys' sports are football, cross-country, tennis and soccer. Some teams have Freshman and JV, as well as Varsity competition. Your student will need a physical exam to compete in HS athletics. The forms may be picked up in the Main Office and taken to your family doctor for completion. Please return the completed physical form to your coach. You must have this form on file to participate or practice. All athletes and their parent/guardian are also required to read and sign the Extra-Curricular Handbook and return the Agreement Page to the Athletic Director. There may be a minimal equipment fee. Please plan to pay all required fees at the beginning of each sports season. No student will be permitted to compete or practice until this obligation is met. Students are in school to acquire a sound and meaningful education. In order to participate in athletics, a student is expected to do well in the classroom. The Indiana HS Athletic Association requires each student to be enrolled in and pass five solid subjects or four solids and physical education class. Your student's eligibility is determined on this basis. Attendance in school, as well as athletics, is vital to any student's education. Please try to promote perfect attendance in all school areas.

Band Boosters:  Is not active at this time.
If you would like to help here contact Mr. Trimmel

The Band Boosters assist the Band with additional fundraisers and provide chaperones for all performances and evening rehearsals. Without the Band Boosters, the Band program couldn't maintain its present high level of performances and travel. You can help by showing your support for their efforts by becoming a Band Booster member. A family membership is $5, and an individual membership is $3. Just put your name and money in an envelope marked Band Boosters and put it in the Band Boosters box in the office. Checks should be made payable to the Gavit Band Boosters. Members will receive a 50% discount at Band Concerts. If you would like to attend the Band Boosters meetings, they are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm in the Band Room. Thanks for your continued support!

Conflict Mediation:
Anyone in grades 6 through 12 in good academic standing can join. Students mediate conflicts before it starts a fight. Those students in conflict would come up with a solution both would agree on, using the mediators in this organization. Your child will learn life-long skills they can use every day. The organization meets after school in the Atrium twice a month on Mondays. There are no fees to join. Some of their activities have included Peace Day, workshops regarding Conflict Resolution and solving conflicts. To join or for further information or questions, contact Rebecca Levin or Susan Lopez at the school.

Dance Team:
The Dance Team began as the Gavit Gladette Pom Pom Team many years ago. It has since evolved into a dance group focusing on creativity and the acquisition of technical dance skills. Students in grades 9-12 are invited to join and there are no membership fees. The Team meets every day after classes for practice. The Dance Team performs at all athletic events, parades and at the Indiana HS Dance Team Association competitions. It provides dancers with a great opportunity for creative expression and socialization. For more information contact  the school or via email.

Key Club:
Anyone in HS can join Key Club. The Key Club is a group of HS students who believe in service to home, school and community. It is the largest HS service organization in the world. Gavit's Key Club meets once a week before school in the Witham Theatre on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m. Dues are $10.00 per year (covering state and international dues, official Key Club pin and handbook). Some of our activities include going to the Soup Kitchen each week, working with Special Olympics, collecting canned goods and clothing for the poor, holding parties for the Carmelite Homes, working as carry outs at Market Day, ushering at school plays, summer outings and meetings, and lots of other fun things. We also attend state/international conventions, and participate in parades and leadership workshops. Key Club is a great way to help others, have fun and get great leadership training and meet other Key Clubbers from around the world. Why not stop by on a Thursday morning and see what we're all about. We'd love to have you join us! If you'd like more information, call  989-7325 to find out the new sponsors name.

National Honor Society:
The Gavit National Honor Society meets monthly or as needed. They provide peer tutoring 3 mornings each week. To become a member, a student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and have a record of good citizenship, and be in the 9th through 12 grades. There are no fees to join. Fundraisers are held each year with the funds providing two $1,000 scholarships. To see if your child qualifies, contact Mrs. Bolger in the Counseling Center.

National Junior Honor Society:
For the MS level, students must be on the honor roll 3 times in each year, have no "F's" or "D's", no suspensions or "DAR's". Meeting time and place is still to be determined. Last year the NJHS provided a mentoring program and participated in several community service projects through the year. The goal is to be academically and socially recognized and gain a sense of community and responsibility. For more information or questions, contact Rebecca Levin at the school or via email.

Sign Language Club:
Any age/grade level can join the Sign Language Club on campus. The Hearing Impaired program came to Gavit in 1986. The club tries to introduce sign language to those who wish to learn this way of communicating with the hearing impaired. The club formerly met after school, but to accommodate those with athletic and work schedules, they now meet at 7:30 am on Tuesdays. They have sponsored several deaf students for summer camps or programs. There are no fees to join and their goal is to expand a student's horizons. For more information or questions, contact Mrs. Lontz at the school or via email.

Student Council - MS:
Student Council gives the students the voice in what events take place and the kinds of things they can accomplish as a MS with active members. Student Council can achieve a lot in MS! The MS Student Council meets on Thursdays at 7:30 am in room 211. They hope to be able to sponsor dances, spirit week activities, food/clothing drives and many other activities. This is a great way to get involved when you're new to Gavit in the 6th grade community. You will have the opportunity to meet a lot of different people and will have input about the kinds of things you want to happen in MS. "Together, we'll have a great time!" There are no fees to join, but the student must be in 6th, 7th or 8th grade. To join or for further information or questions, contact Allison Amptmeyer at the school.

Watch for more information on other clubs at the school!
