Did you know there is tutoring available for all students through the National Honor Society? Contact Mrs. Bolger in the Counseling Center at 989-7328 for full details. Tutoring is available every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday morning before school starts.

Twenty First Century Scholars Program : This program provides scholarships for students who sign a pledge of abstinence from alcohol and drugs and other criminal conduct. The scholar must also graduate with an Indiana Diploma, achieve a GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and apply for admission to an Indiana college, university or proprietary institution as a high school senior. They must also apply ON TIME for State and Federal student financial Aid. This program must be applied for and contract signed by student and parent in the 6-8th grades. If your 8th grader has not brought home the application ask him for one today or go to the website here for both student and parent information pages. Gavit PTSA provides a scholarship to 2 Gavit seniors who do service activities though the school's clubs and with an outside organization such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church, Soup Kitchen, YMCA/YWCA and other such organizations. Students MUST return the application with LETTERS OF RECOMENDATION from one sponsor from each TYPE of activity (in school and out of school) to be eligible for the scholarship.
They must also be a member of the Gavit PTSA for their Junior and Senior years (at least) and be a 'C' or better student. Finally they must turn in the application, with their counselor's signature, on TIME. The PTSA makes sure that all qualifying seniors receive their application, the senior then needs to return it complete and timely to be considered.
Graduating students of Hammond home owners are eligible for the College Bound scholarship. The objective of the College Bound scholarship program is to provide up to 100% tuition for eligible students. Please access this Hammond City link to the College Bound Program site for more information.
The following scholarships were available for the 2009-2010 school year. We are leaving them for information only, as we know the updated 2010-2011 dates we will correct this material.
SCCLR - Sociedad Cultural Civica La Reforma– 2 - $1,000 and 4 - $500 Scholarships for 4 deserving Latino Students. Deadline is April 30, 2010. C average, 250 word essay, maybe an interview.
Dollars for Education Scholarships – 11 $1,000 scholarships. Must be admitted as a full-time student for the fall term following high school graduation; be in the upper 1/3 of the graduating class; letter of recommendation. Deadline TBA. Application at www.hammondeducationfoundation.org.
Centier/Schrage Scholarship - $2,000 with $500 payments per year for four consecutive years with a 3.0/4.0 GPA each semester while in college. To qualify: must be in top 20% of class; at least 950 SAT; leadership roles in school and/or community activities; complete a grammatically correct application; sign a publicity release form.
Indiana State University Scholarships – scholarships for entering freshmen who will be studying 12 or more credit hours a semester on the ISU campus. Deadlines vary but to be considered you must be admitted. Go to: http://www.indstate.edu/scholarships.
Crown Point Community Foundation – for students outside of Crown Point: American/Italian Benevolent Society Scholarship –Italian descent, maintain a B average, resident of Lake or Porter Co. Trinity Lutheran Scholarship – Graduate of Trinity Luthern School in CP, had a C average or above. St. Mary’s Catholic Community School Scholarship- attended St. Mary’s CP K-8 grades. Performed community and religious service. Shirley McGinnis Scholarship – Child or legal dependent of a current member os USW Local #2695.
Cargill Community Scholarship - $1,000 for 350 seniors. www.cargill.com. Applications require the signature of a Cargill employee. Deadline Feb. 15, 2010.
Robert Byrd Honors Scholarship – SAT of 1940 or ACT of 29; GPA of 3.0/4.0; not defaulted on a debt to the federal government or sentenced for a drug offense; attend a post secondary institution on a full-time basis. www.in.gov/ssaci/2341.htm. Deadline April 26, 2010.
KFC Colonel’s Scholarship – for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit. Must have: at least a GPA of 2.75/4.0; enrolled in a university or college within Indiana; plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree; be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; demonstrate financial need. Application on line at www.kfcscholars.org until Feb.10, 2010.
The Puerto Rican Parade and Cultural Organization of NW IN., Inc. – Be involved in leadership activities; high character and integrity; 3 letters of recommendation; essay; deadline Feb. 10, 2010.
Candace D. Tyler Memorial Scholarship - $1,500 for a Hammond African-American female senior who plans to attend college in the field of medicine on a full-time basis. GPA of 3.0 or better; NHS member. Deadline May 1, 2010. Application in the Guidance Office. CDTMemorialScholarhipFund@yahoo.com
Hammond Common Council - $1,000 scholarships available Feb.15th through April 15th. At least a C (2.) average, complete application and live in Hammond.
Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarships – Visit www.kohlskids.com for official rules. Deadline is March 15,2010.
NW District Nurses Scholarship – Application deadline is March 1, 2010. 500 word essay.
